We've been shopping at this lovely store for years. It's the go-to place for unusual, beautiful and high quality gifts. The staff are always kind and helpful and we can always find something unique. Thank you Bibelot for being such a wonderful and important part of our Port Hope family.
Good lord this shop could not be more unwelcoming. I was ready to post my review but read the others first. Good to know that I’m not the only one who thinks the shopkeepers are rude and unprofessional. Came to buy and left empty handed due to unwelcoming and condescending treatment. And p.s. I’m in my 60s and appalled at how I was treated.
Cute store from the outside, but the experience was disappointing. I went in to ask politely if dogs were allowed (since there was no sign). The lady inside (who I believe is the owner) responded in a very passive-aggressive way “I have a dog who lives here. If your dog has bad behavior, I don’t want to know.” I asked out of respect and didn’t expect to be spoken to so rudely. It’s not about what you say, but how you say it. We just left after that. Definitely not a place I’d want to support. Afterward, I looked at some old reviews and I guess I’m not the only one who feels this way.
As mentioned below in several reviews, the customer service in this shop can be unfriendly. We went in trying to gather information about a print we had been referred to this store to locate—in addition to doing some leisure shopping. The salesperson's response was so brusque that we departed promptly, leaving behind the merchandise that we had planned to purchase. It's an attractive shop, but we don't expect to return anytime soon.
I love Bibelot. My 'go to store" for the perfect gift for the last 17 years. I am not a creative person and do not like to shop. But somehow anyone of the fabulous staff always stears me in the right direction. Something for everyone. Regardless of budget. You will find unique and special and fun items for yourself and others. A must to destination. And even I find it a very fun experience You won't be disappointed.
I went in on a weekday afternoon, the store was by no means busy. The sales associates inside did not greet me or acknowledge my prescence. I had to walk up to the cash to inquire about an item. Then they continued to prioritize older folks in their age range. There's so much "shop local, port hope" but the experience is LACKING. I will not be patronizing any small shop that has poor customer service, and inherently acts better than their customers. I'd rather take my hard earned money and shop at independent businesses in Toronto. Cold, unfriendly, unwelcoming people should not be customer facing. It seems like they have their customer base, and are fine with serving existing customers and not looking to retain new business.
I have received many gifts from this shop and couldn't wait to get in there myself! I've been 3 times and each time has been the best experience. The owner, Jann is friendly and welcoming. I'm now hooked on Compagnie de Provence products - first it was the little hand creams...and now, after recommendation from Jann, the ultra-hydrating body cream is fantastic. They have the best Jellycat selection around, beautiful tea towels and I treated myself to an Edward Lear print. Love Love Love. See you soon.
